Emma Stone Wore a 'Don't Grab My Pussy Bow'

Like many female celebrities — Miley Cyrus, Lena Dunham, America Ferrara, and Katy Perry, to name a few — Emma Stone is supporting Hillary Clinton. Yet, unlike the aforementioned stars, she hasn’t stumped publicly for the Democratic presidential candidate. But at the Middleburg Film Festival on Sunday, at a screening of her new film, La La Land, the actress made a sartorial statement that clearly showed she’s #withher.
Wearing a black Prada ensemble featuring a miniskirt and embellished jacket with a Peter Pan collar and white piping, Stone layered a teal collared shirt underneath for an extra pop of color. For yet another pop of color — and a political statement — she also added a pastel bow. A pussy bow, to be exact. Or, as the 27-year-old’s hairstylist, Mara Roszak — who pulled the star’s signature red hair up into a casual updo for the event — called it: a “Don’t Grab My Pussy Bow.” This is an obvious reference to the leaked tape in which Donald Trump can be heard saying, “When you’re a star, they let you do it. You can do anything. Grab them by the p***y. You can do anything.” To cap off the look, Stone carried a grey satin clutch that bore a “Hillary for President” button.
The pussy bow blouse has been having a moment of late. Melania Trump wore a bright pink version from Gucci during the second presidential debate, just days after the Access Hollywood footage came out. She then opted to wear a Ralph Lauren jumpsuit with a similar tie detail to another debate a few weeks later, leading many on social media to assume the former model was trying to send a subtle message (Is she secretly supporting Hillary Clinton? Is she a feminist?) with her fashion choices.
Yet Melania’s not the only one. The pussy bow, named for ties around the necks of kittens and cats, has been seen on lots of celebrities, including the Duchess of Cambridge, Lady Gaga, and Rachel Weisz. Felicity Jones apparently loves the look so much that she wore it on three different occasions throughout her Inferno press tour. While none of these instances appear to have any deliberate political symbolism attached to them, Miley Cyrus did campaign for Clinton over the weekend wearing just a big blue bow as a top, although she has yet to assign a name to her look.
